Nagchu


Protecting an area of 420,000 rectangle miles, Nagchu is the biggest prefecture of Tibet and the main grazing area of this area. But it is sparely booming, with a small inhabitants of 460,000.


Nagchu prefecture was the army platform of the Tubo Empire in the 7th millennium. In 1269, Kublai Khan, who later established the Yuan Empire (1271-1368), positioned his soldiers on the historical mailing tracks, which now run through four of the 10 areas under the prefecture's legislation. The name of one of the areas, Sog, means "Mongolian" in Tibetan and some citizens are said to be originated from the intense players.

Most of the prefecture is without plants, but not for deficiency of trying. More than a several years ago, the government bodies provided a large compensate to anyone who could flower a shrub able of remaining the severe circumstances - so far, no one has been able to declare the cash.


Grasses also sustain a sensitive lifestyle here, distributing in a slim, delicate part over the level. To keep their livestock completely fed, the herdsmen move far and extensive in search of water and grazing area.

Herders reside in dark camp tents constructed on riverbanks. Hand-woven from yak hair, the camp tents provide a heated protection from the wind flow and rainfall, dry easily in the sun after rainfall and snowfall, and are easy to package for the next move.



The prefecture's yearly equine rushing event is organised every Aug. The huge event draws individuals in their best clothing, doing tricks on horse back and doing struggling, bouncing, doing, eating and merrymaking.
